The Coast to Coast Walk begins here alongside the Irish Sea, then up the Solway Firth Coast with views of the Isle of Man and onto the Solway Plain towards Carlisle.
Hadrian`s Wall begins here, with the large and most north westerly Roman Fort of Alauna being situated in Maryport.

Ravenglass is home to Muncaster Castle and the famous "Laal Ratty"  steam railway which runs for miles through some of the most beautiful landscape in Cumbria.

Whitehaven, has a Port with Marina and several places of interest including the Rum Story, the Beacon Centre, shops, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife.

Maryport`s "2000 Years of the Sea" has seen its rich ship building and fishing heritage rejuevenated.

With a beautiful Victorian Port and Marina, historical figures synonymous with Maryport are Fletcher Christian of "The Bounty" and "Thomas Ismay" founder of the White Star Line and the Titanic`s builder.

There is a Pottery visitor centre, the West Lakes Coast Aquarium, Wave Centre, Maritime Museum, Alauna Fort and the
Senhouse Roman Museum, superb coastal walk and promenade with incredible sunset views.

An annual Blues Festival which attracts world renowned artists, many thousands of visitors and lasts for 3 days in July, is acclaimed as one of the best in the world.

Allonby has great Windsurfing and Kite-Boarding possibilities, holding several major competitions.

Beach and sand dunes all the way to Silloth, a quaint Victorian seaside town having 2 holiday villages, coastal Golf course, grand seafront lawns and promenade.

The Award winning Solfest Music Festival is also held annually in this area.
